The 19th March has offiially been declared International Scouse
Day. The day is primarily to raise funds for the Alder Hey Rocking
Horse Appeal, but is also being used to promote the Liverpudlian
Culture.
The Alder Hey Rocking Horse Appeal aims to raise £10 million to build
the UKs first integrated unit for the treatment of children with cancer.
Alder Hey is the biggest and busiest children's hospital in Western Europe and
is a centre of excellence in the pioneering treatment of childhood cancer. Alder Hey
treats children from all over the world - last year caring for children from Bosnia,
Kenya, Cayman, Poland, and Russia to name just a few.
Scousers are proud of their heritage and the traditions that come from their home
city of Liverpool. The local delicacy, 'Scouse' is one of those great traditions that
goes back years to the days when Liverpool was a bustling sea port.
This year we want to see as many people as possible, all over the world, eating Scouse and
raising funds for the Appeal at the same time. There is always massive press interest
about the event and always many celebrities taking part, such as Sir Paul McCartney, Craig Charles
and Cilla Black!
All across the world restaurants and catering companies, such as Sayers, serve
up Scouse as a special for the day. For every person that chooses Scouse
then £1 is donated towards the appeal.
